Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center

The mission of the Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center is to provide a place where survivors of sexual assault and abuse can heal, and to mobilize the community toward action to end sexual violence. We serve Lake County, north Cook County, and southern Wisconsin. Our programs and services include: 24/7hour hotline, crisis intervention, medical and legal advocacy; individual and group counseling for individuals, families and groups, child and adult, female or male; Child Assault Prevention (CAP) program (presented in both Spanish and English) within Lake County’s school system; training of teachers, emergency room personnel, paramedics, police officers, prosecutors, and social service providers on effective intervention and prevention procedures; and community education on sexual assault awareness, risk reduction, rape and incest. The 12 year old facility was designed in collaboration with an award winning interior design firm and input from survivors of rape or abuse and is a model for other centers. Our staff of 15 highly trained professionals is supported by a dynamic board of directors and an extended team of specially trained and dedicated volunteers. All services are provided free of charge.
